Steven Curtin

Steven Curtin has been making electronic music for over twenty years, building and playing analog and digital synthesizers and guitars. Most recently this has involved homebrew signal generators based on phase locked-loop chips and a PIC microprocessor programmed as a voltage controlled divider, as part of an ongoing interest in just intonation and alternative tuning systems. Current work involves replacing the PIC with a more powerful 68HC12 running the Forth language, controlling a digital divider chip.

His particular musical interest is long-term meditational pieces of at least 20 minutes in length. One installation at the mind-body-spirit festival in Spring 2004 ran for eight hours. Steve is also developing interactive music pieces in conjunction with neurofeedback training. He has an MFA in electronic music and the recording media from Mills College in Oakland, California, site of the famed San Francisco Tape Music Center.
